Brock's 1st Halloween

Have your recovered from the Halloween Candy Coma? We fortunately didn't buy/or bring home any candy which made avoiding it much easier! We spent the evening helping Pop-Pop pass out candy to trick-or-treaters before enjoying a feast of sushi at one of our favorite spots. Popeye had a blast before passing out from exhaustion!

 

 

Here's a quick rundown of how I put together Brock's Popeye outfit for anyone who's interested:

 

{1} I cut the sleeves off from a boy's muscle suit I found at Walmart in the Halloween dept. I cut down the length and hand basted them into the shoulder seams of a black t-shirt.

 

{2} I cut the lapel from a scrap piece of sweatshirt material I found at JoAnn's and ironed on white seam binding to the edges. Hand sew the lapel to the t-shirt and sew on three yellow/gold buttons.

 

{3} I took an adult sailor hat I folded the back over till it fit Brock's head and hand sewed a new seam.

 

{4} Using a black permanent marker I drew an anchor tatoo on one forearm and I used dark jeans and white tennis shoes we already had to complete the look.

 

I wish I had pictures of the process, but I was rushed to create it the night before and it was all I could do to get it done! Enjoy! XO-Bri

{Pottery Barn Inspired} Personalized Pennant

Woohoo! I finished another decor item for Brock's room and can cross a DIY project off the list! As I mentioned earlier this week, I've wanted one of these personalized pennants from Pottery Barn Kids for Brock's room ever since I first saw them.

However, at $52 each they were not at the top of my priority list and didn't make it on to the registry. So, I decided to make my own!

Start by gathering your supplies...you'll need felt {in the colors of your choice}, Steam-A-Seam double stick fusible web, & felt letters or a stencil {I printed letters using a font from my computer & cut around them to make a stencil}.

{Step 1} Cut your pennant from a 12" x 18" piece of felt.

{Step 2} Using your stencil, cut your letters from a contrasting color of felt. Also cut any embellishments {i.e. stars} and about a 1/2" strip to go along the side of the pennant.

{Step 3} Using Steam-A-Seam, bond letters, embellishments, & strip to pennant.

{Step 4} Enjoy!

Sorry for the lack of pictures, I completed this project while making dinner, doing the dishes and catching up on a few TV shows that have been sitting on the DVR...multitasking at its finest!

Can you believe Valentine's Day is just around the corner?!?!? This year is already flying by! While Vince worked late last night I put together a little something for our front door.

This project was super easy and fun! I used a Styrofoam wreath {from the floral department at JoAnn's}, red yarn, & cute little Valentine cookie ornaments I found on sale at JoAnn's.

1. I started wrapping yarn completely around the wreath. It gets repetitive and takes a little patience, but it's worth it!

2. Use E-6000 {or hot glue} and add the decorations of your choice.

3. Hang and enjoy!

While Vince was out and about all day working on a Valentine's Day surprise {yay!}, I took advantage of a day off and started working on decor for Brock's room. I knew I wanted to get some decorative letters to hang over his crib so I headed off to Hobby Lobby to grab a few supplies.

I ended up with:

• 5 - chip letters
• Small bottle of Blue acrylic paint
• Sponge paint brush
• E-6000 glue
• Blue marbles from the floral department 

This project was incredibly quick and easy. The letters can be as elaborate as you want so be creative! I decided to keep them simple since they're for baby boy's room.

{Step 1} Start by painting each letter with a coat of acrylic paint using a sponge brush {don't forget the edges!}.

{Step 2} Using E-6000 glue marbles along the edges of each letter.

{Step 3} Let the glue dry, display finished letters, & enjoy!

I'm really happy with how the letters ended up and I can't wait to hang them in Brock's room. It felt so good to finally have some free time to craft again and I can't wait to make a few more things to finish off our baby boy's mini man-cave nursery!
